Practice Questions for Jan 2016 Mock
Please use these questions to aid your revision. They cover VCH/ERA's side of the course but also include some questions that LEL has already put on the blog (Electron config and IE practice).

12c Homework from Tue 8/12/2015
Complete the questions on structure and bonding unless I have told you you don't need to :-)
Check you have good understanding of the difference/similarities between
Van der Waals forces
London dispersion forces
Permanent dipole dipole interaction
Induced dipole dipole interaction
Hydrogen bonding
Use the specification in my folder to check you are correct.

12dCh - LEL absent 08/12/15
Dear 12dCh,
I am on a course all day. Your cover work is outlined below.
Read pages 176 – 179 and make notes covering/answering the following
points/questions:
1.
The intra-molecular bonding in alkanes –
relating to the sigma bond, shape, hybridisation and electronegativity
2.
The inter-molecular bonding - an explanation of its
type and cause
3.
Common trends within the homolgous series of
alkanes e.g. boiling point
4.
The relationship between shape (branching or
chain) and boiling point, with reference to intermolecular forces
5.
Combustion of alkanes – complete and incomplete
Outstanding homework will be due next lesson. Sorry I forgot
to tell you I was off.

Cover for P4 (only!) on Wednesday 18th November 2015
Dear Y12,
I will be in your lesson P3 tomorrow but after lunch I have to attend a meeting. Your work is to look through this powerpoint and complete the worksheet I have given you.
You may need to look up what an isomer is, if I forget to tell you in P3!

Questions on Redox
Practice questions on redox
I have edited these to focus on what we've been doing only. If the question says suggest that means we've not covered it directly but you should be able to imply why. I have deleted lots of the questions but not matched up the mark scheme - so just be careful when you go through it.

Practice questions on IE and electronic confirguration
Practice questions on IE and electronic config
these are a little harder than the ones in the exam, but nothing you shouldn't be able to explain.

More revision materials....
http://a-levelchemistry.co.uk/OCR%20Chemistry%20A/Unit%201/Unit%201%20resources.html
Topic 1: Atoms, Electrons and Periodicity (but not the bit on successive ionisation energies)
Topic 2: Moles, Equations and Acids (but not the section on titration equations)
There are also some questions on redox on here, but they're too interleaved with questions on Group 2 and 7 to make it easy for you to know which bits to do.
Enjoy!

Revision Material
Dear Y12,
I hope the revision is going well. I've been struggling with computer issues whilst away so I've not been able to post anything for your exams. Fear not though as I'm sure you've found some material that is of use.
You could also try the following links:
Redox
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/redox/definitions.html#top (introduction to redox)
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/redox/oxidnstates.html#top (has good questions at the end)
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/redox/equations.html (also has questions and answers at the end)
Periodicity
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/atoms/properties/elstructs.html#top (practice on electronic configuration)
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/inorganic/period3/elementsphys.html#top (properties of group 3, but don't worry about anything after the bit on atomic radii)
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/atoms/properties/ies.html#top (more information on ionisation energies)
Atomic Structure
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/atoms/properties/gcse.html#top (GCSE revision)
http://www.chemguide.co.uk/atoms/properties/atomorbs.html#top (the questions go a little bit further than your course does)
